Snowmobile Sound Check
Sound Law is now in effect - 2011

The Yampa River State Park will be conducting voluntary decibel level testing on snowmobiles around northern Colorado for the remainder of the season (2008-2009). The reason for this is that a year and a half from now a new law will take effect that will require snowmobiles to emit noise no higher than 88 decibels. The test is easy to administer and takes very little time. The decibel reading is taken on a stationary snowmobile at 4,000 rpms from a distance of 157.5 inches away.

We are trying to test as many snowmobiles as possible this winter to give lawmakers actual numbers to look at so necessary changes, if any, can be made to the law before it takes effect. These numbers may also help manufactures of aftermarket parts make proper adjustments.

There is no penalty for being over 88 decibels this year. We are doing this for research and educational purposes only so if anybody would like their sled tested please contact us.
